Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition

Good product, works well, easily installed. Prefer this to the other product I had previously.
Do not upgrade to this package if NIS 2004 is working

I am a long-time fan of Norton, and have used it for many, many years. Hence my extreme disappointment that when I installed this Spyware version as an upgrade to NIS 2004, it refused to do a System Scan, or to scan my incoming or outgoing email.

I spent a full day with their tech reps, priority/work job # 23218850, who were completely unable to solve the problem: "certain Norton Antivirus components were not installed. [Error] 3019,6."

Initially I was unable to unload WORD attachments until I had unplugged the plug-in for Microsoft Office XP.

The Tech Rep conclusion was that I had debris from NIS 2004 which prevented the Antivirus portion of this package from becoming operational. I scanned my stand alone WIN XP from the Norton home site and have NO Security issues and NO virii.

    Caveat emptor to the max.
Antispyware not the best but still ok.

The biggest complaint about this product is that it slows down your PC. If they are complaining that their PCs are taking longer to bootup, fare enough, it does add 10-15 seconds to your bootup, but if they're complaining that their PCs run slower after Windows has started, something else is wrong.

I installed NIS 2005 Antispyware after having used System Works 2005.

The install was problem free, the antivirus software re-configured itself to run with my new purchase, and both products sit happily side by side.

Adaware and spybot are bollocks. All they do is list millions of irrelevant and harmless cookies, all of which could be removed just by deleting your cache and cookies in IE or Firefox. When it comes to real spyware, Adaware gets a bit, Spybot nothing.

The best free anti-spyware product is Microsoft Anti-spyware, which even has the distinction of removing trojans that anti-virus programs can't remove.

The best commercial product is a virtual tie between Spydoctor 3.2 and Spysweeper 4.0. Spydoctor is slighty better, in that it removes commercial keyloggers, something no other package can do. In fact most don't even report their existance on your PC. None of the free antispyware products block spyware at all, which both of these do very well, in fact if you install them on a clean system, the chances are you'll get almost no spyware of any consequence.

The only all in one solution that works is Norton, and has one huge advantage over the rest. No false positives.

No huge lists of harmless cookies, 90% of which you setup yourself when logging into shopping or banking websites, and all of which don't need anti-spyware software to remove.

It isn't as good as Spydoctor or Spysweeper, nor is it as good as MS Antispyware beta, but along side the free product from MS, it is solid.

The only disadvantage it has is the time it takes to scan, way too long, but as I bought this mostly for it's firewall and antivirus protection, this isn't a problem.

Infact I intend to turn off it's antispyware functionality and rely on Spydoctor and MS Antispyware (along with extremely limited use of IE - with regular cookie deletes, at least with Firefox, software can't be remotely installed on your PC, IE provides direct access to the OS, and therefore direct access to your computer).

So my PC is running just as fast, no slow downs, everything is fine. As it was a clean build 3 days ago, and with new antispyware and antivirus software, a proper firewall (not that windows crap) and careful surfing I expect to be largly problem free for the next 6 months, by which time the mandatory system rebuild will be due (takes six months for a PC to slow down, which is probably what is happening to these idiots complaining about NIS, and is unavoidable no matter what software you use).

Nancy Drew: Secret Of the Old Clock

This hot, latest installment of the Nancy Drew game series includes the best parts of the first four books and takes place in the same time period – welcome to 1930’s America and the Great Depression. A friend of Nancy’s asks her to visit the town of Titusville, where another friend, Emily Crandall, lives. Emily owns an inn and she's in a jam; she's low on cash and nearly bankrupt. However, she does have one hope of saving the inn: a neighbor died and left his money to her in his will. Or, did he?!

Who Is Nancy Drew? YOU Are!

    Who Needs Nancy's Help

Nancy finds herself in the middle of a mystery when Emily and the dead neighbor’s ESP teacher, Richard Topham, both claim the estate. Combine ESP with the strange inventions in the house of the the dead neighbor, Josiah Crowley, and you’ve got a recipe for all kinds of unexplained events happening in Titusville.

    Emily Crandall Needs Your Help!

    The Scene of the Mystery

Playing as Nancy, discover Titusville from behind the wheel of your 1930's roadster. Follow your roadmap to locations of interest in the mystery. Visit the lovely Liliac Inn owned by Emily, the invention-filled house of the deceased Josiah Crowley, and other locations where you need to search for clues.

    Your Roadster

    The Lilac Inn

Entry Hall of the Lilac Inn

    A Mysterious Warning!

    The Possible Suspects

Titusville is filled with a cast of characters. Here are some who may be responsible for the strange occurences Nancy encounters as she tries to discover who really inherited the money left behind by Josiah Crowley:

    Jim Archer

    Richard Topham

    Emily Crandall

    Jane Willoughby

Jim is a good-natured, but secretly desperate, businessman trying to make it through the end of the Depression. The bank he owns is teetering on the brink of failure. Jim has been helpful to Emily and her mom, but he’s desperate for money. How far would he go to save his bank?

Richard is a self-proclaimed expert on ESP and telekinesis and lives in the house that once belonged to Josiah Crowley. How did he inherit Josiah’s estate and money? He runs the “School for the Study and Development of Paranormal Powers,” but is his act just a hoax?

Emily runs the Lilac Inn with the help of her guardian while she mourns the recent loss of her mother. She is plagued by strange occurrences: objects on the wall move, whispers call from shadows, things mysteriously disappear and then reappear. Is Emily just stressed out or are things really amiss?

Gloria Crandall, Emily's mother, asked Jane to look after her daughter in case anything happened to her. She's doing her best to help Emily, but she doesn't know much about raising kids or running an inn.  Could Jane have a hidden agenda?

    Awesome, Amazing, Spectacular and Astonishing!

This game was unbeleivible. From finding a treasure to riding a horse, this game is for all Nancy Drew fans, old or young, adventurous or not. It was long, hard but so fun! There are cool features that make you feel as if you are in the game. There are many puzzles, but all very interesting and fun! I'd say this game was pretty hard, it takes a lot of brains to figure out the puzzles, but alot are just trial and error. Don't forget, you can always go to the Herinteractive website for hints and tips!

I'll start off with the history. It was so incredible! You get to read clues a man hid for his love 2 centuries ago to find his 'treasure'! His tale is sad, but his clues are fun to follow! His clues take you everywhere, from a ghost town, to a rocky cliff, to a simple desert path! You also get to play a few games and do puzzles to get his next clue.

The setting was amazing, I actually thought I was in the desert! You get to snoop in a ghost town, a ranch, a shop, and more! Great graphics, I'd say even better then the ones in Curse Of Blackmoore Manor and Secret Of The Old Clock! (The 2 Nancy Drew games made after this one.)

Overall, this game is a must have! It's definately my favourite! There are many cool things you vcan do, like` ride a horse and hunt for arrowheads. This game is a bit scary, but only at the ghost town. (No, there are no ghosts!) The ending was especially fun! So, in the end, get this game! It's totaly worth the cost and wait.

Not the best ND, but still pretty fun.

You'll spend a lot of time waiting to drive your car, and you have to drive it often to win the game. This was a more simple game--which is actually a bit of a relief after the terribly long "Danger on Deception Island." Not the best ND game, but not the worst, either. It's fun and has interesting people. I think it's worth buying and playing, as long as you don't expect "Haunted Mansion" or "Shadow Ranch." Variety is the spice of life, hey?
    A Disappointed Nancy Fan

I'm 14 years old and I've been playing Nancy Drew games since #3 The Haunted Mansion, and they have always been exhilarating. The puzzles would be tough, but not annoying, and during the game you would always feel frightened at one point or another. Also, when they promised 20+ hours of play, they would mean it. I was disappointed when I finished the game after only 5 hours of play. When I told my mother this, she suggested I was just getting really good at playing the game and solving the puzzles. After reading these other reviews, I realize I am not alone in this time shortage matter. I just hope that the next game will have the actual amount of time, meaning more than 20 hours of play. If that means that it takes a little longer to come out, I will gladly wait.

Industry: HA... I call them thieves

Listen, I'm not sure how many people up to now have tried to justify WoW's excessive need of 15$ per month. They say it's for maintenance and the employement... but what I'm REAALLLYY unable to understand is that how GUILD WARS (not as great a game as WoW, I understand) is able to keep-up without punishing their players with a monthly fee of $15. For sure, it ain't as huge as WoW, but they could still surely make that same excuse of needing to maintain and (bla bla bla bla blaaaaaa....)
And if another excuse is that the inventors must be payed for their invention (which is obviously WoW), they're payed the lowest wage out of the whole group, just as the factory worker is payed in a factory!!! So I'm basically asking myself how such people have the nerve to defend this 15$ per month of which this company is making MILLIONS out of! I believe this is exploitation, and no other adjective could describe it. That is why game consoles like PS2 or X-Box have boomed the piracy community!! Only because they charge 60$ (Can) for a DVD that costs only about 50c at most. Greed leads to the black market...!
The shipping was quick for standard

I just got my lastest game card through amazon.con with homedepot shipping, I ordered it on the 27th of july and it was said to get here by the 8-18 of august.
The game card came 6 days early.
I gave it 3 stars because I had to pay 4$ for standard shipping and I also had to pay "TAX".
    It costed around 31.06$

It was 6 days early but on things that have amazon supper shipping gets to your house 1-2 later with no shipping and no tax
    Horrible Price

I agree with everyone else. The price at futureshop.ca is 39.99. Which isn't too bad. But 59.99, please. Lower the price of it.

Great for Beginners, Intermediate and Experts

This was a great game for my 6 year old son. He's been playing chess for about 6 months and knows the basics. I wanted him to start to learn and understand strategy. This software reinforced the basic principles of the game, plus taught him some things that the book we checked out of the library didn't tell him. When he and I started playing regular games on his chess board, I was amazed at the strategies he was employing and the moves he was making based on what he learned from this computer game. Even my husband, who is a very good chess player, enjoyed playing the computer game and it gave father and son yet another fun activity to share. I highly recommend this product for young children at any level.
    learn chess the easy way.

obtaining this item was the best thing that happened in my life when it came to learning this complex sport. if it weren't for this disc i probably would have missed out on alot. once you get the hang of it, you will like it alot. the way everything is taught will make you smile, yes, it is that positive.
    Learning Made Fun

I sat down with this software after installing it, and was pretty much unable to figure out how to play it. My 9 & 7 year old daughters have been playing it constantly. They love it. They have been able to figure it out, and understand it. They are on the road to learning chess terms and moves. I highly recommend this software for kids and probably adults like me who have never been taught chess.
